  • Eating Healthy: Remember that scripture from 1 Cor:6:19-20? “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So, you must honor God with your body.” So, let us gather to discuss exactly HOW to honor God with our body that we strive to become healthy. We will focus on practical suggestions for how to cook, purchase, and plan for healthy living. Facilitators: Jonathan & Donna Baker: Wednesday ( 2 Weeks):  9/11, 9/18, at 5:30pm in classroom 2.

 

  • Card Making: Card making is a wonderful creative hobby that lets crafters create beautiful mini pieces of art. Not only is this hobby relaxing, but it also can be extremely rewarding. You can spread joy through these special and personalized handmade cards. Making cards is a fun way to help meet the needs of our congregation and their families. Join us and bring adhesives, scissors or any cardmaking supplies you may have.   • Titus - 4 Lessons: Titus was one of Paul’s most dedicated and faithful disciples. He traveled with Paul around Europe and the Middle East to share the good news, plant churches, and raise up disciples. Paul spent a lot of time serving together with Titus and they became very close. Prominent themes in Titus include healthy church, leaders, individuals, and community. Sound doctrine is emphasized as well as godly living. There are four lessons that go through the book of Titus: Titus Introduction, Titus 1:1-16, Titus 2:1-15, Titus 3:1-15.Facilitator: Teresa Burgess: Wednesday (4 Weeks) 9/11, 9/18,10/9,10/16 at 5:30pm,  classroom 1.

 

  • How to Read the Bible: How to read the Bible is a three-week course that will give you the fundamentals to developing a daily devotional time that includes prayer, reading the Bible and reflecting on your spiritual life. Facilitator Reverend Jim Divine. Wednesday (Three-weeks) – Sept. 11, Sept. 18, and Oct. 2, at 3:00 pm, in Classroom 5-6.

    • How to Read the Bible Class Topics:

      • How to start a devotional time that lasts.

      • Choosing a Bible that is right for me.

      • Learning where to begin in the Bible.

      • How to read the Bible for growth.

      • The basics to beginning an active prayer life.

  • How to share your testimony: How to share your testimony is a three-week course that will give you the fundamentals to developing ways to share your testimony. That includes prayer, reading the Bible and reflecting on your discipleship. Facilitator Reverend Jim Divine. Wednesday (Three-weeks) – Oct. 9, Oct. 16, and Oct. 23, at 3:00 pm, in Room #5-6.

 

  • Introduction to Line Dancing: Want to stay fit without realizing you are exercising? Want to dance in a group without needing a partner? Want to learn some of the line dances done at the Squares?  In this 8-week series we will meet at Lake Deaton UMC and have fun learning some Level 1 dances.  No prior line dance experience needed! When we are ready, those who are interested will have an option to also meet at Brownwood Paddock Square on Monday 5-6pm to dance with the DOPS club. For your safety, please wear shoes that will stay on your feet. Sneakers are perfect.  Sandals with a strap across the back are OK. No flip-flops, please. Facilitator: Karen Maurey; Thursday (8 weeks), 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 10/24, 11/7, 11/14, 11/21, 12/5, at 1:30-2:30pm in the CLC.

 

  • Grow Art Class: The four-part class will celebrate God’s creative presence in our lives through visual art mediums. God can use anything to heal, restore, renew, and encourage people, and His gifts of Art and Creativity can likewise be used for tools of discovery, regeneration, comfort, and restoration. We will use a variety of recycled items, mixed media, and collage techniques to create works of art. Each class project will feature a scripture inspired activity to open our hearts to God’s ever-present influences in our lives. POSSIBLE SUPPLY FEE OF BETWEEN $10-$15 per person. Facilitator: Diane Hull & Kari Diaz: Thursday (4 weeks): 9/19, 9/26, 10/3,10/10 at 3:30-5:30pm in classroom 1.

  • The Chosen Season 4:  We will continue in the Fall with airing “The Chosen Series-Season 4”. Each class will be a viewing of one of the Season 4 episodes and if time permits, we will then have a discussion. The episodes are: 1. Promises, 2. Confessions, 3. Moon to Blood, 4. Calm Before, 5. Sitting, Serving, Scheming, 6. Dedication, 7. The Last Sign, 8. Humble. Facilitator: Bob Jorden: Wednesday (8 Weeks): 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/9,10/16,10/23,10/30, 11/13 at 5:30-6:30pm in classroom 5-6.

 

  • NOOMA - Rob Bell Series:  NOOMA is a series of short films that explore our world from a perspective of Jesus and is an invitation to search, question, and join the discussion. There is a total of 21 NOOMA videos each about 9 to 12inutes long on assorted topics. The video speaker is Rob Bell. Each week we will watch one video and discuss for about 15 minutes, then watch a second and discuss for about 15 minutes. Facilitator: Denise McGhee: Wednesday (10 weeks): 9/11, 9/18, 9/25. 10/2, 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/13, 11/20, at 3:00-4:15 pm in Classroom 1.

 

  • Senior Lifestyle Decisions (Finance): Senior Lifestyle Decisions is about ensuring that the decisions we make regarding our future are in safe and informed hands. Estate planning is more than wills and trusts; it is about preventing the “sticky stuff” from creating conflict among loved ones. Seniors avoid discussing end-of-life decisions and this workshop will help prevent that mistake. Facilitator: Charlotte Norris: Tuesday (One Day only) 11/12/24 at 10:00am in classroom 2.

 

  • Prayer Bees: In October, the preaching series is about prayer, and we will have folks praying for others at the service (before & after). Topics include praying for physical healing, praying for relationships, praying for peace and comfort / anxiety, praying for grief. Facilitator: Nancy Wilson, Thursday (4 weeks): 9/5, 9/12, 9/19, 9/26 at 1:00-2:30pm in classroom 1.

 

  • Organic Small Group Classes: We are planning to have meetings for individuals who are interested in becoming part of a small group. Each week in October we will meet. Then we will launch some new small groups in November. These weekly events will go through the elements of the “Main Course” video/booklet. Facilitator: Rev. Loida Divine:  Thursday (4 weeks): 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 10/24 at 4:00-5:00pm in classroom 5-6.

 

  • OPTIONAL: Spiritual Gifts for Small Groups: Did you know your Spiritual Gifts may change over the years?  Did you know one way to avoid “volunteering burns out” is by using your Spiritual Gifts? Do you experience satisfaction or aggravation with your volunteer activities?  These and other questions will be addressed at the upcoming Spiritual Gifts Workshop.  You will learn more about your unique God created spiritual profile and, the ‘plans He has for you’ to grow and apply your giftedness in ways that will satisfy you and serve the common good.   This workshop is designed for all; people who want to refresh their understanding of spiritual gifts as well as people who may have never heard about spiritual gifts.  Our team will come to your small group for a two-hour workshop where you will discover your spiritual gifts and learn where to use them.  Sign up if your small group is interested.  Facilitator: Diane Hull / Cindy Sutorka / Beth Hunt: She will set up appointments with small groups.
